Manuscript assessments

A manuscript assessment is where I read your complete work and give you detailed feedback on the big picture. I don’t make changes directly to your writing. Instead, I provide a report about what’s working well and what could be improved.

After a manuscript assessment, you will receive a report of at least 3000 words explaining your manuscripts strengths and areas for improvement.

How is it different from other editing stages?

Structural editing comes after an assessment (or instead of!). This is where I help reorganise your content, improve plot or argument flow and strengthen character development or key points.

Copy editing happens once the structure is solid. I focus on sentence-level improvements like word choice, grammar and clarity while keeping your unique voice.

Proofreading is the final stage before publication. I catch any remaining spelling errors, punctuation mistakes and formatting issues to ensure your work is polished and professional.

A manuscript assessment is ideal if you want professional guidance on your work’s strengths and weaknesses before investing in more intensive editing services. If you’re looking for something less formal, a beta reading report might be more suitable.
